Tucked between Plaza Midwood and Eastway Drive, Commonwealth Park is one of Charlotte’s most charming neighborhoods.

With tree-lined streets, bungalow-style homes, and a strong sense of community, our neighborhood carries a unique history that reflects Charlotte’s mid-20th century growth.

The roots of Commonwealth Park trace back to the late 1930s and early 1940s, when Charlotte’s development was pushing outward from the city center. Originally part of the Chantilly area, the neighborhood gained a distinct identity in the 1940s after the construction of Independence Boulevard. This major thoroughfare not only reshaped traffic patterns in the city but also created a clear boundary that helped establish Commonwealth Park as its own community.

The neighborhood quickly filled with bungalows, Cape Cod cottages, and brick ranch homes, reflecting the popular architectural styles of the time. Many of these houses still stand today, lovingly restored or modernized, while newer builds have added fresh energy without erasing the area’s character.

While often lumped in with Plaza Midwood, Commonwealth Park has always stood on its own. Its borders are neatly defined by Independence Blvd. to the South, Briar Creek to the West, Central Avenue to the North, and Eastway Drive to the East.

This prime location gives our residents the best of both worlds: a peaceful residential setting with quick access to some of Charlotte’s most vibrant districts.
